Welcome to Afternoon Nursery

We are the yougest children in the school and are just beginning our journey here at Pentland Infant and Nursery School. Our teachers are Miss Duncan, Miss Shaikh and Mrs Asmal. There are 26 children in our class and we all enjoy to play and learn together and look after each other. We are curious little children and we like to learn through exploring and investigating the world around us. In nursery we learn in a practical, experienced based way which helps us to develop our independence, social skills and understanding of new concepts and key skills that we will need in life and in preparation for when we start school in reception.

This half term our topic will be Fairytale & Fantasy. For the first two weeks we are going to learn all about the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will be doing lots of drama and role-play, learning about characters and feelings, learning to use story langauge, sequence the events in the story and learn it by heart so that we can retell it and share it with our friends and family. In maths we will focus on measures for the first week and will be learning lots of size related vocabulary and comparing and ordering the size of objects and solving problems using our knowlede of size. In the second week we are going to be focusing on solving number problems involving counting, matching numerals and quantities together, comparing groups of objects and using the language of more and less. For the last two weeks of the half term we will be focusing on fantasy and will be learning about pirates. On Thursday 15th May 2014 we will dressing up as pirates and visiting Eureka for a Pirate Adventure.

How to help your child

  • Help your child to remember their book bag and read to them daily, talking about the things that you have read
  • Talk to your child about what they have been doing at school
